This October ACE Mentor Program of Cleveland kicked-off the 2010-2011 school year at John Hay School of Architecture & Design and James F. Rhodes High School with creative icebreaker sessions led by lead firms Gilbane Building Company, Herschman Architects, and Regency Construction Services, Inc. This year the ACE program has three teams totaling 63 students and 29 mentor firms. The affiliate gained 9 new mentor firms and welcomes Arcadis, EBlueprint, Johnson Controls, SE Blueprint, Skanska Shook, Thompson Hine, Tremco, Turner Construction, and the Cleveland chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Each ACE team has busy schedules planned for this year including field trips to the Cuyahoga County Engineer's Office and jobsite, Tremco, The Cleveland Museum of Art construction tour, and Kent State University's Urban Design Collaborative.
A committee of mentors met several times over the past few months to design the RFP for the final design project. This year's assignment is to conceptually a pedestrian bridge. The RFP gives the students flexibility in location of the bridge and has several project requirements and deliverables. Mentors will guide students throughout the development of the project. On Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Windows on the River, students will be presenting their designs at the Third Annual Final Presentation Night and Scholarship Banquet.
